PHOENIX — Residents in Peoria and Glendale will soon be able to access public transportation more easily.

Valley Metro announced that it will extend bus services along 83rd Avenue, starting Monday. The services will be extended by 15 miles and will run to the Arrowhead Towne Center, which is just north of Bell Road.

The buses will also make stops near the Peoria Sports Complex, the P83 Entertainment District and Desert Sky Mall in Phoenix.

“It’s a really exciting day because we have some new bus services that are being introduced to several different neighborhoods across the Valley,” said Susan Tierney, a spokeswoman for Valley Metro.

But that was not the only announcement that Valley Metro had.

The company is also adding a new route in Avondale. The route, called Zoom North, will expand the already-existing Zoom South.

In the East Valley, a new bus route will travel from Gilbert Road to 48th Street along Ray Road.

And in Tempe, a new circulator is being added called the Orbit Saturn. It will provide free rides to popular destinations, including the Tempe Public Library, several city parks and the Benedict Sports Complex.

Tierney said Valley Metro was able to add these new services because of a regional tax that supports transit service. More services will also be added in April.

Details about the new routes and proposed service adjustments scheduled to take effect in April can be found on the Valley Metro website.

We want to hear from you.
