PHOENIX — Traffic in the Phoenix area is expected to be snarled this weekend as the Lost Lake Festival kicks off at Steele Indian School Park on Friday, and highway closures may contribute to some of that congestion.

The eastbound Interstate 10 will be narrowed to one lane at 59th Avenue from 9 p.m. on Friday to 10 a.m. on Saturday. The same area will be completely closed from 9 p.m. on Saturday to 10 a.m. on Sunday.

These closures will allow crews to continue construction at the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange.

But that isn’t the only Phoenix-area freeway or street closure that will take place during the weekend of Oct. 20, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Union Hills Drive will be closed in both directions at the Interstate 17 from 9 p.m. on Friday to 5 p.m. on Saturday to allow crews to install a wrong-way vehicle detection system.

The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Thunderbird Road will also be closed from 9 p.m. on Saturday to 8 a.m. on Sunday for construction.

The I-10 will be narrowed to one lane in both directions near State Route 587 south of Chandler from 7 p.m. on Sunday to 6 a.m. on Monday and again from 7 p.m. on Monday to 6 a.m. on Tuesday for a pavement resurfacing project.

Glendale Avenue will be closed in both directions between the Loop 101 and 99th Avenue in Glendale from 9 p.m. on Friday to 2 p.m. on Saturday to allow for resurfacing.

67th Avenue will be closed in both directions at the Loop 101 from 9 p.m. on Friday to 6 p.m. on Saturday for traffic-signal maintenance.

The westbound I-10 will be narrowed to one lane near 59th Avenue from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights to allow for Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway bridge construction.
