PHOENIX — Fans of daytime TV show “The View” will get two McCains for the price of one Monday when Arizona Sen. John McCain visits daughter and co-host Meghan McCain.
It’s a bit of a present to the newest panelist, who will be celebrating her birthday that day. The 32-year-old made her debut on the Emmy-winning show earlier this month.
McCain was moved to tears on that first day when she talked about her father, who has been battling an aggressive form of brain cancer since summer.
The 81-year-old Republican lawmaker has been frank about the prognosis. The cancer was discovered in July after a blood clot near his eye was surgically removed.
He told TV newsmagazine “60 Minutes” doctors’ outlook was bleak. “The prognosis is very, very serious. Some say 3 percent, some say 14 percent. It’s a very poor prognosis.”
Despite the dire projection, the Navy veteran has continued working. Some of his work, including voicing opposition to the GOP’s Graham-Cassidy health care proposal, has been a source of irritation to President Donald Trump, who has tweeted his displeasure with McCain quite a bit.
“I’m exhausted with the infighting within the Republican Party. I’m exhausted with the attacks on my father,” Meghan McCain told “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos on Wednesday.
Meghan McCain has been an immediate hit on the show. Her debut episode ranked as the show’s second most-watched episode in seven months.
Her dad proudly tweeted out her opening segment.
Congratulations @MeghanMcCain on your first day on @TheView. Our family couldn't be prouder of all that you continue to accomplish. pic.twitter.com/75RwGQsZcq
