PHOENIX — One Phoenix-area city was recently ranked as the best city in the country to purchase a family home, the personal finance technology company SmartAsset found.
Chandler, Arizona, was ranked as the best city in the nation to buy a home that is big enough for a family.
This Arizona city took the No. 1 spot in part because the median home value in the area increased by 45 percent between 2011 and 2015.
The housing stock in Chandler is also “favorable” for people who are hunting for a family home, the company found. More than 90 percent of homes in the town have at least two bedrooms.
But, overall, most Arizona cities fared well in the study, which found that homes in Arizona have “appreciated faster than homes almost anywhere else.”
Homes in other Phoenix-area cities, including Chandler, Gilbert and Scottsdale, have seen their home values increase by more than 40 percent during that same time period.
The study also found that bigger cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, fare worse for families due to the lack of space that most homes and apartment complexes allow.
In September, a WalletHub study found that Scottsdale and Gilbert were ranked among the best cities in the country to raise a family.
