PHOENIX — A 9-year-old boy in Phoenix was able to save himself and his dog after their house quickly caught on fire on Monday.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the unidentified boy told firefighters that he heard items falling in his garage and saw the fire and smoke shortly after.
The boy was able to use the classic “stop, drop and roll” trick to escape the fire, getting down on the ground and rolling out of his front door. He was also able to get his dog on his way out.
Bystanders helped the boy get his other dog out of the house before crews arrived.
The boy and the dogs escaped the house unharmed, the department said.
According to the department, the fire started in the garage and quickly extended to the attic. Firefighters were able to “stop the forward progress of the fire.”
All the firefighters escaped unharmed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
