Upgrades planned for the rest area, located on both westbound and eastbound sides between Casa Blanca Road and State Route 387 near Casa Grande, included corrections to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, replacement of a water line, septic tanks and sewer lines, a paint job and an update to the electrical and mechanical systems.
With the closure, the nearest public facilities available will be in Phoenix, on the Gila River Indian Community and near Casa Grande.
Driving distance between central Phoenix and Sacaton, east of I-10, is less than 40 miles. Sacaton to Tucson is about 80 miles.
