PHOENIX — Two teachers at a Chandler day care have been taken into custody after they reportedly posted a video that involved children playing with inappropriate adult toys.
Gabriella Del Carmen Garcia, 25, self-surrendered to Chandler police and 24-year-old Fatina Sawyer was arrested on Wednesday. Another woman in the video, 21-year-old Janae Peterson, was booked on one count of failure to report on Tuesday.
The women were fired from SuperKids child care on Tuesday, after a video surfaced on social media of two of the women laughing while handling the toy. One of them gave the toy to an unidentified little boy to hold.
In a statement, officials with the child care admitted to parents that something improper had happened, but not what, and that police and other authorities had been notified.
Police are still conducting an investigation.
According to the Arizona Department of Health Services online, in November the child care center corrected several deficiencies that had been flagged during an inspection and was in compliance with state requirements.
The center, also a preschool, takes care of children 6-weeks-old to 12 years and is open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The business offers full and part-time child care, including after-school oversight.
The website had a notice for two openings.
A listing at Care.com, which helps families across the country find care for children, seniors, pets and home, noted the business opened in 2013.
