PHOENIX — An oversize truck driving on a much-used central Phoenix street clipped part of a freeway bridge, restricting traffic Tuesday, highway officials said.
Damage to the bridge on Seventh Avenue at Interstate 17 forced closure of the street’s left turning lanes to the northbound freeway on-ramp.
The I-17 South off-ramp also was restricted, with one of two left-turn lanes to northbound Seventh Avenue closed.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said engineers had inspected the damage from the Monday accident and determined it was safe for travel during the repairs.
The truck was over the height limit for the space.

The agency recommended drivers take Central Avenue or Seventh Street if they had to go near or through downtown Phoenix.
The interchange was already scheduled for improvement work.
