PHOENIX — A 14-year-old Arizona boy who was named as a suspect in a burglary and homicide in a northeastern county was formally charged in connection to the attack.

Joshua Cade Richardson was charged with burglary and first-degree murder in the killing of TerriLynne Collins. He remains jailed in Navajo County and has been assigned a temporary attorney for his preliminary hearing next week.

The Apache County Attorney’s Office filed complaint charges Wednesday stating Richardson had a handgun, knife and hockey stick during the attack.

Collins was found dead in her residence in Concho, a small community located 158 miles northeast of Phoenix.

Richardson was taken into custody on Wednesday by deputies with the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office. He was thought to be on the run after being named in connection of Collins’s murder.

Attorney Ernest Collins Jr., a Phoenix-area lawyer, said he was on the phone with Collins when she was killed during an encounter with an intruder in their Concho home.

Collins Jr. said his wife was killed while struggling with the intruder after she went to a trailer on the property in response to a text for help from the couple’s 18-year-old daughter.

Collins said his wife called him before she went to the trailer and that he was able to hear much of what happened during the fatal encounter.

When deputies from the Apache County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, they found a body inside the home and signs of foul play. They had originally been called about a possible home burglary in Concho.
