PHOENIX — Vice President Mike Pence will fly to Arizona on Tuesday to meet with state leaders and attend a political event, the White House said.

Pence was expected to land about 2 p.m. Arizona time at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

He was then scheduled to meet with Gov. Doug Ducey and local business and community leaders to discuss tax reform.

“We’re thrilled that he’s going to come here,” Ducey said in his exclusive monthly interview with KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Mac & Gaydos. “We want to see tax reform pass and the reason we want to see tax reform pass is we want to see a growing economy that provides more jobs for our citizens. I like their plan on this. They’re going to come out and meet with small business people and hear what their needs are.”

Pence will spend his evening at a fundraiser for Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and RNC finance chairman Steve Wynn.

The vice president will stay in an unannounced hotel overnight before leaving Phoenix on Wednesday morning.

Pence was last in the Valley for a rally in late August with President Donald Trump that brought protests that resulted in pepper spray and tear gas being deployed by police.

Trump was scheduled to visit Puerto Rico on Tuesday, which was hit hard by Hurricane Maria almost two weeks ago.

Trump was expected to visit Las Vegas the following day. A gunman opened fire on a crowd of thousands at an outdoor country music concert from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel Resort and Casino.

More than 50 people were killed and more than 500 were wounded, making it the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

We want to hear from you.
