PHOENIX — A Republican congressman said Monday that Arizona should recall U.S. Sen. John McCain so he can focus on his fight with cancer, not politics in Washington, D.C.

“It’s a tough battle, but stress is a real inhibitor toward getting over cancer,” U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas told “Fox and Friends.”

“So let him go back, deal with the cancer. Let Arizona recall him.”

Gohmert also said McCain should be recalled because he promised to help get rid of Obamacare during his re-election campaign. However, the senator sunk the so-called “skinny repeal” last month and planned to vote against the Graham-Cassidy bill this week.

“If he had said last year what he was going to do, Kelli Ward would have beat him, Ann Kirkpatrick would have beat him,” Gohmert said.

“Let’s get somebody in here who will keep the word he gave last year.”

McCain was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in July.

“The prognosis is very, very serious,” McCain told “60 Minutes” on Sunday.

“Some say 3 percent, some say 14 percent. It’s a very poor prognosis. So, I just said, ‘I understand, now we’re going to do what we can, get the best doctors we can find, and do the best we can.’ And, at the same time, celebrate with gratitude a life well-lived.”
