PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies shot an armed man who confronted them early Wednesday at a home about 50 miles west of Phoenix.
Deputies were responding to an anonymous call reporting a possible homicide at a home near 339th Avenue and Buckeye Road in Tonopah. Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez said when deputies arrived around 1 a.m. an armed man met them near the door. They fired, hitting him.
The man made it back to the house, shut the door then barricaded himself inside.
After negotiations with a SWAT team, the man eventually gave up. He was taken to a hospital and was expected to recover. The unidentified man suffered the only injury.
No one else was found at the home.
Authorities were still investigating hours later.
