PHOENIX — A Phoenix-based marijuana company wants to buy the town of Nipton, Calif., and turn it into a pot-friendly resort.
American Green Inc. is one of the largest cannabis companies in the country and wants to turn Nipton into an “energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination.”
The town of Nipton was placed for sale at $5 million last year.
American Green has a lot of plans for the town, according to CBS News’ report from August.
American Green says it plans to expand that farm and also bottle and sell cannabis-infused water from Nipton’s plentiful aquifer. The buyers are also reaching out to edibles manufacturers and other pot-industry businesses, hoping they’ll be interested in relocating to Nipton and bringing jobs with them.
The 120-acre area is home to the Cavaness family that runs Hotel Nipton and nearly a dozen others, according to the Cannifornian.
In a more recent update, the Cannifornian notes the company “wants to modernize Nipton’s five-room hotel and ‘eco-lodge cabins.'”
The next step is to upgrade the stores around the town and eventually have Hotel Nipton turned into a resort themed with marijuana like similar weed-friendly resorts in Colorado. The appeal of the hotel is to serve cannabis-infused dinner parties and have tourists use medicated pools, among other activities.
