PHOENIX — Drivers using Phoenix-area highways during the weekend of Aug. 25 should make note of these freeway closures, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Eastbound Interstate 10 at 59th Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. on Friday to 5 p.m. on Saturday and again from 9 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday. The on-ramps at 75th and 67th avenues will also be closed.
Westbound I-10 on-ramp at 59th Avenue and off-ramp at 67th Avenue will also be closed from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturday.
These closures will allow for bridge construction at the Loop 202 interchange. ADOT advises drivers to use alternate routes, including McDowell Road or Van Buren Street.
But that isn’t the only Phoenix-area freeway that will be closed over the weekend.
The I-17 will be closed in both directions at Glendale Avenue from 9 p.m. on Friday to noon on Saturday. The freeway will also be closed in both directions at Northern Avenue from 9 p.m. on Saturday to noon on Sunday.
This will allow for installation work to continue on a wrong-way vehicle detection system. The system will be installed between the I-10 and Loop 101 over the next three months and will be fully operational by 2018.
The on- and off-ramps at Greenway Road on State Route 51 will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday to 11 p.m. on Saturday for resurfacing and southbound I-17 between 7th Avenue and the I-10 split will be narrowed to one lane for maintenance.
