PHOENIX — Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Dignity Health will partner to bring a new facility to the East Valley that will specialize in caring for mothers and babies.
PCH spokesman Craig McKnight said the five-story medical tower will contain 350,000 square feet of space on Dignity Health’s Mercy Gilbert Medical Center campus near the Loop 202 and Val Vista Road.
The facility will include “24 labor delivery rooms — including six dedicated to high-risk patients — you’ll have 46 postpartum beds (and) four (Caesarean) section rooms,” he said, adding that those rooms will be operated by Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.
Phoenix Children’s will operate 50 pediatrics beds, a 12-bed pediatric emergency department, operating rooms and a 60-bed neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital already has a 22-bed unit at the facility that opened three years ago.
“By joining forces again on this East Valley project we will be increasing needed services provided to families,” Linda Hunt, president and CEO of Dignity Health in Arizona, said in a press release.
The facility was in the planning and design phase. Construction was expected to begin in fall 2018 and should be completed two years later.
