PHOENIX — Different states like different things, and that’s especially true when it comes to music.
The New York Times sought to discover which artists were most popular where, and found a lot of similarities by each region.
By looking at the artists on the Billboard Top 100 this spring, the New York Times tracked which 50 were most watched on YouTube in the United States between January 2016 and April 2017.
They compiled 50 maps that showed which area listened to which artist the most, and Arizona had some surprising answers, while others you would probably guess.
In terms of other parts of the country, Arizona listens to Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd, Drake, Calvin Harris, Panic! at the Disco, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, J. Cole, Travis Scott and Linkin Park the most.
Based off this list, Arizona definitely has a variety of musical taste, ranging from alternative rock, to hip hop, to pop music.
What you’ll notice is the absence of heavy metal and country music.
If you’re a big fan of either of that musical genre, it looks like you need to watch some more YouTube videos.
