PHOENIX — President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign is exploring a possible rally at the Phoenix Convention Center in about two weeks.
A convention center official confirmed talks were underway about the week of Aug. 21 but said the event was not yet booked.
It was unknown what the president may speak on, but he has used Phoenix in the past to address immigration issues. In an August speech, he unveiled a 10-point immigration plan.
Earlier this month, Trump publicly backed the Reforming American immigration for Strong Employment Act that would tighten the number of legal immigrants allowed to enter the United States and change the green card system to one based on merit.
“This competitive application process will favor applicants who can speak English, financially support themselves and their families and demonstrate skills that can contribute to our economy,” Trump said during a press conference.
Trump has held several rallies around the country since being inaugurated in January.
At his latest rally held earlier this month in Huntington, West Virginia, he again spoke out against alleged ties between his 2016 election campaign and Russia.
He said Democrats were fueling the Russia narrative and called on prosecutors to instead investigate former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s emails and her “paid Russia speeches.”
