PHOENIX — Topgolf, a venue that mixes a driving range with video games, said Tuesday it is targeting Glendale for its third location in the Phoenix area.
In a press release, the city said the company was hoping to build near Bethany Home Road and 99th Avenue, but that decision was pending a city council vote scheduled for later Tuesday.
According to the council documents, Topgolf would buy the 13-acre property for slightly more than $5.7 million.
Should the deal be approved, construction would begin this year and the facility would open in fall 2018.
The new Topgolf would be just across the Loop 101 freeway from University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals. City Manager Kevin Phelps said the facility would be a welcome addition.
“Topgolf and this vibrant, dynamic area are a perfect match, offering residents and visitors alike even more fun entertainment options,” he said in the release. “This signature opportunity goes a long way in furthering the type of quality growth Glendale is attracting to this thriving district.”
The new facility was expected to generate 500 part- and full-time jobs, welcome 450,000 visitors in its first year in operation and create a $264.5 million economic output over a 10-year period.
“Topgolf’s new location in Glendale means new jobs, new entertainment options for residents and visitors and an increase in tax revenue for the city,” Brian Friedman, Glendale’s economic development director, said in the release.
The company also has locations in Scottsdale and Gilbert.
