PHOENIX — Following an eastbound Interstate 10 closure last week for work on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway, the other side is scheduled to be closed this upcoming weekend.
The Arizona Department of Transportation announced a travel advisory for Aug. 4-7 in the Phoenix area, with the major restriction including a blockage on westbound I-10 at 59th Avenue.
That section will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday for bridge construction at the South Mountain Freeway, with the westbound I-10 on-ramps at 43rd and 51st avenues also getting shut down at that same time.
During the planned shut down, construction crews are going to pour a concrete structure, known as a straddle bent, over I-10 for the future ramp connection to the South Mountain Freeway.
Westbound I-10 traffic will be able to exit at the 59th Avenue off-ramp and re-enter at the cross-section’s on-ramp.
Heavy delays are expected.
Other planned ADOT weekend restrictions are:
- Westbound I-10 will be narrowed to one lane near 59th Avenue from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday for the same bridge construction.
- Northbound Interstate 17 will be narrowed to two lanes between Bethany Home Road and Glendale Avenue from 5 a.m. to noon Saturday for overhead message sign work.
- Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes near Indian School Road from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday for freeway lighting maintenance.
As always, additional freeway-restriction can be found here.
