PHOENIX — A big crowd is expected at Arizona State’s football scrimmage at Camp Tontozona east of Payson on Saturday.

Because of this, the Arizona Department of Transportation is expecting delays on State Route 260.

The eastbound lanes between Kohl’s Ranch and Christopher Creek (mileposts 267-272), about 15 miles east of Payson, will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Sunday to allow for parking along the highway.

Eastbound motorists not stopping at Camp Tontozona will get through using a lane on the westbound side.

Those going to the ASU event from the Phoenix metro area will hit a snag about 25 miles south of Payson on State Route 87 near Slate Creek. The highway is narrowed to one lane for a few miles in each direction while crews conduct roadway repairs.

The scrimmage is slated to start at 9 a.m. and end around noon, with an autograph session following the practice.

ASU does not allow fans to bring pop-up tents, pets, alcohol or glass containers, but concessions and Sparky’s team shop will be onsite.

We want to hear from you.
