Monsoon storm brings heavy rain, strong winds to Valley Saturday

Jul 29, 2017, 5:35 PM | Updated: 6:24 pm

PHOENIX — The latest monsoon storm hit the Valley Saturday, bringing strong winds and heavy rain with it.

The storm also brought a big temperature drop, as Phoenix dropped from 103 degrees to 87, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service saw storms in the Wickenburg area moving south in the early afternoon.

From there, the storm continued to move south, with the strongest parts being west of central Phoenix. Outflow winds, though, created new storms to the east that would hit those areas in the heart of the Valley in central Phoenix and Scottsdale.

That brought two main areas of the storm hitting the west Valley and central Phoenix early Saturday night.

The most rain recorded in the Valley according to Maricopa County was at 7th Street and Cactus Road with 0.67 inches in an hour. Those areas towards the west in Surprise and Litchfield Park also saw over half an inch of rain.

A dust storm warning was issued for southern Maricopa County and Pinal County at 6:15 p.m. and would end at 7:15 p.m.
