PHOENIX — Much-loved Chicago deep-dish pizza maker Lou Malnati’s has announced plans to open another restaurant in the Valley next year.
The Malnati family chose a site near Scottsdale Road and Loop 101 for its second full-service venture in Arizona.
The Chicago-based restaurant launched its first out-of-state location in Phoenix at Central Avenue and Camelback Road in May 2016.
Large crowds came out for the grand opening, waiting for hours to eat. Wait times are still long.
A takeout-and-delivery-only Malnati’s was scheduled to open in a space shared with Kitchen 56 in the fall.
The casual-dining restaurant at 56th Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood has closed for the summer for renovations.
The Scottsdale site — 10,000 square feet — was expected to start serving up pies early next summer.
“We have been overwhelmed by the response this past year and are ready to expand so that we can serve more of our authentic deep dish to the people of Arizona,” Marc Malnati, owner of Lou Malnati’s, said, in a statement.
“We are looking forward to immersing ourselves in more local communities.”
That immersion references back what Malnati said last year: that he wanted to open eight more sites in the Valley.
