PHOENIX — Spending time in a ballpark and seeing all of the greasy concession food can make a person feel overwhelmed.

There are hot dogs, nachos, cotton candy, and now it seems professional teams are competing to add illustrious desserts like the Churro Dog right here in the Valley.

The Arizona Diamondbacks want people to remember there’s a healthy lifestyle needed too.

The D-backs announced Thursday they are adding an urban garden into Chase Field.

The garden will hold nearly 200 assorted herbs, including sweet basil, chives, garlic chives, lavender, oregano, rosemary and more that will change seasonally.

The contents of the garden won’t be available for purchase, but will serve as an, “educational tool to teach fans about sustainability efforts and encourage healthy eating,” a press release said. “As part of the D-backs’ sustainability efforts, the team will utilize compost produced in part from organic material collected from ballpark kitchens to enrich and enhance the soil in the garden.”

The garden will be located on the northwest wall of the stadium just outside the main gates for at least the remainder of this season. It was created by a local company, Flower Street Urban Gardens, and is sponsored by UnitedHealthcare.

The D-backs also said they have teamed up with Coors Light to install a sculpture in the rotunda that will be filled with more than 1,000 Coors Light beer cans collected after games to demonstrate their recycling efforts.
