Young girl sends gift to police, Gilbert PD responds on Facebook

Jul 15, 2017, 5:42 AM

PHOENIX — A girl who sent 250 homemade crosses to police officers got a response back on Facebook from the Gilbert Police Department.

An eight-year-old named Arianna is behind Arianna’s Cross Mission, an effort to make Perler bead crosses for first responders “across the world,” according to the mission’s Facebook page. The effort began in September 2015. Recently, she sent out her crosses to three police departments, two of which are in Arizona.

The package evidently included a note, which was revealed when the Gilbert Police Department responded on Facebook.

“Hello, my name is Arianna,” the note read. “I am 8 years old. I make crosses to spread God’s word. God’s word is peace, kindness, love, joy, patience, hope and faith. I’m also Catholic and religious and loving and caring. I am a very happy girl. I hope my crosses inspire people to pray and love Jesus. I also hope my crosses protect you.”

The Gilbert PD responded, “From the Gilbert PD (Arizona)! Thank you, and please be safe out there!”

The Facebook page for Arianna’s Cross Mission says the goal is to reach as many first responders as possible.

“What started out as a small project has now grown into a mission of her’s to try to reach as many PD and FD across the US, and the world, as she reasonably can,” it says.

We want to hear from you.
