Arizona deputy kills man who hit patrol car, then pulls knife

PHOENIX — A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed a man Thursday who allegedly rear-ended a patrol vehicle before wielding a knife, the agency said.
In a press release, authorities said the deputy was parked and eating lunch in a plaza near Dysart and McDowell roads in Goodyear about noon when he was rear-ended by 42-year-old Pedro Rubio.
When the deputy went to check on Rubio, he allegedly got out of the car while brandishing a knife.
The deputy, a 12-year veteran of the department, ordered Rubio to drop the knife. When Rubio kept approaching, the deputy opened fire.
Rubio was hospitalized in serious condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The deputy was not injured.
Officers spoke to witnesses and said they were still investigating.
