PHOENIX — A dog died Wednesday as three people it was with waited to be rescued off a Scottsdale mountain, officials said.
“When we got on scene, we started up the mountain with a recon unit,” Scottsdale Fire Capt. David Folio said. “They made patient contact, but by the time they made patient contact, the dog was deceased.”

Folio said the three people the dog was with were pulled safely off the mountain.
“We ended up treating one of the other patients and removing all three from the mountain,” he said.
Folio said the group started their hike early in the morning, but officials were not alerted to the fact that they were suffering from heat-related illness until after noon.
Folio said the group did not have a cell phone to contact authorities.
The National Weather Service called for a high of 106 degrees on Wednesday.
