PHOENIX — As many enjoy a long holiday weekend with July 4 coming up on Tuesday, it’s a fitting time for Arizonans to travel the Grand Canyon State.
Those looking to get outdoors and go camping might enjoy Havasupai Campground, which was named the best campsite in Arizona by Travel + Leisure.
The online travel publication listed the best place to go camping in each state. For Arizona, Havasupai was the winner. It’s located along the Havasu Creek near Supai, Arizona, which is just adjacent to Grand Canyon National Park.
“Getting to Havasupai is a challenge,” Travel + Leisure wrote. “Permits are snatched up almost instantly, and even if you snag one it’s 10-mile trek from the rim to reach this rustic campground hugging Havasu Creek.
“Make the journey, however, and you’re rewarded with a series of gushing waterfalls and natural pools all an astonishing shade of robin’s egg blue.”
It’s likely that Havasupai and other campgrounds around Arizona will see a spike in visitors this week, though, as Triple-A of Arizona reported that more than 865,000 Arizona residents are expected travel for the July 4 holiday.
