KTAR’s Main Street Minute focuses on local businesses that are hiring, opening and hosting events across the community. These stories air each weekday on KTAR at 7:27 a.m.

• The National Endowment for the Arts has given more than $1 million to 17 arts programs in Arizona, including several in the Phoenix area. The Arizona Commission on the Arts was the biggest winner with an $820,000 grant, but Arizona State University received $100,000, the Phoenix Art Museum $45,000 and the city of Phoenix $30,000 to divide among 30 youth programs.

• A pair of big job fairs were to be held Wednesday in the Valley. Meet with representatives from a number of top companies starting at 11 a.m. at the Phoenix Marriott Mesa Hotel and Convention Center. The event ends at 2 p.m. There also was a hiring event set at the Embassy Suites Biltmore near 24th Street and Camelback Road. Hiring managers from UPS, Humana and State Farm, to name a few, will be on-site from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• Highland Prep holding a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning at its West Valley campus. The tuition-free, public charter school near Waddell and Reems roads in Surprise will serve grades 9 through 12 and will open with about 125 freshmen.
