PHOENIX — According to a report that identified the fastest-growing city in each state, Arizona’s city with the biggest uptick in population is a suburb on the far western outskirts of Phoenix.
Buckeye grew by 4.8 percent from 2015 to 2016, the greatest amount of any city in the Grand Canyon State, Business Insider reports.
Phoenix actually had the greatest numeric increase in population in the entire U.S. from 2015 to 2016. But it was Buckeye that had the greatest percentage growth in the state in that time frame.
The suburb is located just west of Goodyear and straddles Interstate 10. U.S. Census Bureau data estimated the population of Buckeye in 2016 to be 64,629.
In the year 2000, its population was just 6,537.
Buckeye was also among the 15 fastest-growing cities in the U.S. from 2015 to 2016.
