TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Police in Tempe are trying to identify a baby girl found abandoned in a city parking lot on Apache Boulevard near McClintock Drive.
They say the newborn was found Sunday night by a pedestrian who was walking through the area, who then reported it to a store manager.
Police say the baby was wrapped in a blanket and placed inside a backpack and put in a shopping cart.
They say the child was taken to a hospital and is in good health.
Police say they’re seeking assistance from the public in identifying the baby. Those who may have information about the incident can call Tempe Police at 480-350-8311. The department also reminded the public to keep in mind that hospitals and fire departments are safe havens. At safe havens, a person won’t face criminal charges for dropping off an unharmed newborn baby.
