PHOENIX — The Gilbert School Board voted Tuesday to close Gilbert Junior High School because of declining enrollment.
Minutes from the board meeting also said the school — located near Gilbert and Guadalupe roads — was closed so students could receive a full education.
The school served seventh and eighth grade students.
The facility will also serve as the new home of the Gilbert Classical Academy, which serves seventh through twelfth grade students and has outgrown its current location near Elliot and Greenfield roads.
Gilbert Junior High will be shuttered at the end of the school year and will reopen as the Gilbert Classical Academy in the fall.
Students from the junior high will be sent to Mesquite Junior High School, located near Elliot and Gilbert roads.
