PHOENIX — Children in the Phoenix of suburb of Glendale told police Wednesday they were threatened with an ax by a man wearing a clown mask.

The Glendale Police Department said the incident happened near 67th and Glendale avenues. An immediate search of the area did not turn up a suspect.

Police are asking for anyone with information on the incident to call them.

This is not the first time a man wearing a clown mask has caused concern in Glendale. In October 2016, a woman told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Mac & Gaydos that a clown stared her down when she was taking out her trash near 67th Avenue and the Loop 101.

“On my way back, I saw somebody standing there,” she said. “It didn’t look like they were trying to get in the gate. I put my phone down and I didn’t even realize at first that it was a clown because that’s not what you’re expecting.”

Bailey said she called the Glendale Police Department’s non-emergency number and was told she was the third call received about the man.

There was also a rash of clown-related pranks nationwide. The most famous cases were reported in South Carolina, where children told their parents clowns were trying to lure them into the woods with candy.

Threats were also made to schools around the country, including two in Mesa and Avondale.

We want to hear from you.
