KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) — The Latest on a soldier who died in a training incident in Hawaii (all times local):

12:20 p.m.

A U.S. solider has died during a training incident in Hawaii.

Army Major John Landry says two soldiers were inside a military truck and were hauling equipment to a dock. He says one soldier died and a second soldier was injured and released from the hospital.

Both soldiers had been assigned to the 25th Infantry Division on Oahu.

Landry says the cause of the incident is under investigation, and the Army plans to release the names of both soldiers Tuesday.

Landry says the accident occurred Sunday morning at an intersection on the Daniel K Inouye Highway on Hawaii Island. He says no other vehicle was damaged in the incident.

He says the Army’s thoughts and thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the two soldiers.

A second soldier was injured during the training.

The accident occurred Sunday at an intersection on the Daniel K Inouye Highway in North Kona, Army officials said. Both the highway and Mamalahoa Highway were closed as officials investigated.

The soldier had been assigned to the 25th Infantry Division.
