Triple-A expects to rescue about 170,000 Arizona drivers this summer

PHOENIX — Triple-A of Arizona is readying to rescue what it estimates will be about 170,000 drivers this summer, the agency said Thursday.
In a press release, the agency said most drivers are unprepared for roadside emergencies, which typically leads to a call to Triple-A.
Triple-A spokeswoman Michelle Donati said most calls originate from simple problems, such as flat tires and dead batteries.
“We recently found that two-thirds of American drivers have never proactively had their car battery tested,” Triple-A spokeswoman Michelle Donati said. “One-in-five do not know how to change a tire and 4-in-10 do not carry an emergency kit in their vehicle.”
Donati said drivers can avoid a roadside headache by performing — or having a mechanic perform — a simple pre-trip checkup that includes an oil change and tire inspection.
“The majority of travelers are planning to travel by car this summer, which underscores the importance of taking precautions to ensure they are prepared for a safe road trip,” Donati said. “If you’ve ever been stranded on the side of the road, you know how stressful and dangerous it can be.”
But Donati said her advice should not only apply to Arizona motorists.
“We expect to rescue more than 7 million American drivers nationwide this summer.”
