Woman says husband demanded divorce before killing 4 people

ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (AP) — The wife of a Wisconsin man who killed two of her co-workers, a police detective and an attorney says she knew the minute she saw her husband walk into the bank where she worked that something bad was about to happen.

Naly Vang said her husband, Nengmy Vang, was dressed in a suit, which would have been unusual for his cheese factory job, and demanded that she sign divorce papers March 22. He snarled “Do you want to die now?”

“No,” she said. Then her husband turned and walked out of the bank. Naly knew he was going out to his car, where he typically kept a handgun, and that he intended to come back to kill her.

“I was shaking,” she said. “My body knew it was serious.”

In her first public comments since the shootings, Vang told USA Today Network-Wisconsin (http://wdhne.ws/2qTlzEW ) that she turned to her longtime friends and co-workers, Dianne Look and Karen Barclay, and said she needed to run and hide.

They told her to go out the back door, and she ran, panicked, into a Subway restaurant in the same strip mall.

Vang returned and fatally shot Look and Barclay, who Naly believes likely confronted her husband.

Ten minutes later, Marathon County 911 dispatchers took a call from the Tlusty, Kennedy and Dirks law office in Schofield, where Naly Vang’s attorney, 43-year-old Sara Quirt Sann, worked. Nengmy Vang held two people at gunpoint before he shot and killed Quirt Sann, then went to his apartment in nearby Weston.

As police converged on the apartment, Everest Metro Police Detective Jason Weiland was fatally shot as he set up a perimeter around the building.

Officers exchanged gunfire with Nengmy and stormed the apartment. Nengmy Vang was hit, seriously injured, and rushed to a hospital, where he died April 1.
