FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. (AP) — One school was on lockdown after someone shot and wounded a worker at a nearby South Carolina automotive plant.
Officers were called to the Yanfeng Automotive plant in Fountain Inn shortly before 6 a.m. Friday.
Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds told local news outlets that one person was hurt but the injuries weren’t life-threatening. Reynolds said officers are searching for a suspect.
About 100 employees were evacuated but were allowed to re-enter the plant about two hours later. The plant is just off Interstate 385 about 15 miles (24 kilometers) southeast of Greenville.
Greenville County Schools said Simpsonville Elementary school was on lockdown and extra officers were sent to Fountain Inn Elementary School.
A spokesman for the Laurens County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately return phone messages Friday.
