PHOENIX — Flying to the Great White North just got a little easier: Air Canada announced Wednesday that it will add a nonstop flight between Phoenix and Montreal.

The first flight is scheduled to take off Feb. 22, 2018. The route will be flown from Feb. 22 to May 28 annually.

Air Canada will offer three weekly flights between Sky Harbor International Airport and Montreal in the winter and spring months, when people are looking to trade the snow and cold of Canada for the sunshine and warmth of Arizona.

“Providing easier access and direct air service to cities like Montreal is not only good for the Phoenix area’s thriving tourism industry, it is vital for our growing international business community,” Mayor Greg Stanton said in a press release.

Montreal is the hub for Air Canada. The airline used to offer a nonstop flight between the Valley and Montreal, but the service was canceled in 2011 as the airline struggled with a down economy.

“I applaud Air Canada for bringing non-stop service to Montreal back to Phoenix Sky Harbor,” Stanton said.

“With the Phoenix economy thriving, and new businesses moving into the area, now is the time to launch new air service connections to points around the globe.”
