PHOENIX — More than 50 percent of the businesses in Phoenix have fewer than 50 employees, the city estimated.
Phoenix is looking to recognize those smaller companies during Small Business Week, which runs through Saturday.
“[Owning a small business] means doing things the way I’d like, doing it better,” Melrose Pharmacy owner Teresa Stickler said. “[And] having patients appreciate our store.”
Phoenix offers lots of help of all kinds for small businesses – from making a business plan to financial management. Stickler said she didn’t take advantage of much of it, but what she did get help with was invaluable.
“Lots of different coaching, and a small business development center,” she said. “They are very supportive with … people … and bringing awareness to small businesses and areas.”
Phoenix’s small business programs and support are available to all small businesses in Maricopa County, no matter what city in which they open their doors.
The city council and mayor believe that any small business that succeeds ultimately benefits not only the city in which it’s located, but all of the cities in the Valley.
