PHOENIX — Reports of a gunman in the area forced a school into a brief lockdown Friday in west Phoenix, but police later said the suspect had only been carrying a pellet gun and a replica rifle.
Police said they’d been called around 6:40 a.m. about a man carrying a gun near 27th Avenue and Osborn Road, close to Bostrom High School before classes began.
The school posted a note at its website that students and staff were being sent to Metro Tech High School.

Sgt. Alan Pfohl said the man had not been on school property.
Police initially closed 27th Avenue in both directions from Indian School Road to Osborn but later reopened southbound lanes, then northbound lanes about a half-hour after that. Traffic was moving normally by around 9 a.m.
