Phoenix food bank begins annual drive to deliver one million meals

PHOENIX — On Tuesday, a Phoenix food bank began its annual drive to deliver one million meals to those in need.
St. Mary’s Food Bank spokesman Jerry Brown said many of the meals are being provided through mobile food pantries.
“Some of them are every week, some are every two weeks,” he said. “[St. Mary’s] will drop off 25,000 to 30,000 pounds of food, which our volunteers will hand out to folks who line up.”
The mobile pantries regularly stop at 40 Phoenix locations.
“We can reach out to folks who may not be able to reach the food bank, with transportation problems or other problems,” Brown said.
The campaign is partnering with Walmart to help provide food and cash. Brown said shoppers can either buy specially-marked items or donate cash when you check out.
The campaign ends May 20.
