Crash closes westbound Loop 202 freeway in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Drivers who were heading into work a little late on Friday ran into a major snag on the Loop 202 freeway in Phoenix.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said a crash involving multiple vehicles closed the westbound lanes of the freeway near 24th Street about 9 a.m.

The freeway reopened about 12:30 p.m.
The Phoenix Fire Department said nine people were injured, including three people seriously injured and needing transport to hospitals.
The state Department of Public Safety said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Trooper Kameron Lee said 10 vehicles were involved in the wreck that began when a tractor-trailer rig was unable to stop when rush-hour traffic came to a halt.

Drivers were forced off the freeway at 32nd Street. The ramp from northbound State Route 143 to the westbound Loop 202 was closed for a time because of the crash.
