Maricopa County offering free adoptions to clear shelter space

PHOENIX — If you have been considering adding a dog or cat to your home, you may want to take a trip to a Maricopa County shelter this weekend.
Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is offering free adoptions on most of its animals on Friday and Saturday.
“The adoption fees have been sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society in Utah for any cat or kitten and any dog over 6 months of age,” spokeswoman Melissa Gable said.
The free adoptions are being offered for a simple reason — overcrowding.
“Adopt a pet and free up some kennel space, because I can guarantee you there’s going to be another dog or cat that’s going to be waiting to get into that empty kennel,” Gable said.
The adoptions are being offered at both county shelters — one is in Phoenix near 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road and the other is in Mesa near Rio Salado Parkway and the Loop 101.
