PHOENIX — The campaign may be long since over, but that won’t stop former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders from holding a rally in Mesa next week.

The Democratic National Party said Thursday that Sanders, along with Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, would host the rally at Mesa Amphitheater.

“We’re holding a rally … (to) talk about how we’re building a stronger, grassroots Democratic Party that can take on Trump, fight for our values, and win elections,” the announcement email read.

The event is scheduled for April 21. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

The rally is part of a cross-country tour through conservative-leaning states — Maine, Kentucky, Florida and Nevada are also on the schedule. More states could be added.

“This is part of our effort to revitalize the Democratic Party, to turn it into a grass-roots party — to tell people that Donald Trump’s agenda is not what he promised them,” the Vermont senator told the Washington Post.

“On issue after issue, he’s turned his back on working people and sided with the millionaire class.”

Sanders is no stranger to Arizona. He campaigned heavily in Arizona prior to March’s presidential preference election, which he eventually lost to former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

After he exited the Democratic race, Sanders campaigned on Clinton’s behalf in the Grand Canyon State.
