PHOENIX — Lucid Motors is still at least a year away from opening its $700 million Arizona plant, but you can take a video tour of one of its cars right now.
YouTuber Marques Brownlee was given a first look at one of the company’s Air models. It has a sleek design and some interior features — namely the reclining massage seats in the back as described by Business Insider — that have us ready to trade in our keys.
The upgraded Air will have at least three interactive screens and, as the video shows, will boast a 315-mile range, 1,000 horsepower and a panoramic sunroof.
The Air is expected to be priced a little more than $52,000 for a base model. The one shown in the video above will sell for about $100,000.
The company anticipates the Air will rival other luxury vehicles such as the Tesla Model S, Mercedes E Class and BMW Series 7.
The Air is smaller than its competitors, but Peter Rawlinson, the chief technical officer at Lucid, explained the interior was designed in order to provide a significant volume of space.
Lucid will begin production on the Air when its Casa Grande plant opens next year. The 500-acre site is expected to employ 2,000 people by 2022.
Lucid announced that it will approximately produce 20,000 vehicles per year initially, but would like to eventually get that number up to 130,000.
