During a weekend that included a myriad of events and attractions beginning on March 31, downtown Phoenix saw an estimated 400,000 visitors.
A concert series that started on Friday, the Diamondbacks’ season-opener on Sunday and a Pride Festival that same day were among the reasons for a jam-packed weekend downtown. Furthermore, sports bars aired the semi-final games of the NCAA Final Four that was happening just miles away.
“If you take not only the number of people but the diversity of events, it was the busiest weekend in downtown Phoenix in our history,” Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton told KTAR News 92.3 FM. “And it was — and is — awesome.”
Even with all there was to do, the March Madness Music Festival reached capacity.
In addition, the Suns played the Rockets on Sunday and the Rattlers played on Saturday.
“It’s safe to say that there were hundreds of thousands of people between Thursday and today,” said Robbie Sherwood, a spokesperson for Stanton. “The estimate for Sunday alone was 165,000.”
