If you live in Arizona and are considering calling it a career, your retirement destination might be right under your nose.

That is, at least, according to a report by Bankrate, which analyzed the 50 U.S. states to determine which places are ideal for those who have called it quits.

Bankrate, a financial publication, used factors like cost of living, healthcare quality, crime, taxes and others to determine which places were suitable for retirees.

Arizona finished in 12th place overall.

As you might imagine, Arizona finished second in the country in the “weather” category, behind only California. Weather was the only top-10 finish in an individual category for the Grand Canyon State, which finished 12th in seniors’ well-being and 12th in the number of seniors who live here.

Arizona’s worst placing in an individual category was culture, where they sit in 39th place.

As for cost of living (28th), health care quality (26th), taxes (15th) and crime (38th), Arizona was middle-of-the-road.

For all of Arizona’s positives for those enjoying retirement, it’s no wonder that communities like Sun Lakes and Sun City are home to thousands of seniors.

The No. 1 state on the list was New Hampshire, which finished in the top 10 of five different categories. Alaska came in dead last, finishing 48th in cost of living and 50th in weather.

We want to hear from you.
