PHOENIX — The NCAA Final Four is just days away and law enforcement officials are working around the clock to ensure the safety of fans across the Valley.
But the top FBI official for metro Phoenix, Special Agent in Charge Michael DeLeon, said the agency knows of no “current, credible threats” associated with the upcoming tournament.
DeLeon said the FBI’s joint terrorism task force will work throughout the week to make sure the basketball games and associated events are secure.
Christina Figueroa, Arizona’s protective security adviser with the Department of Homeland Security, said Valley law enforcement agencies have received training on scenarios that range from active shooters to improvised explosive devices.
“The impressive array of trained professionals throughout Arizona should give you great confidence that this team effort will achieve our mission: To ensure the safety and security of the entire population,” she said.
The first two games of the Final Four are on Saturday and the final championship game will have Saturday’s winners face off on Monday, all at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
Associated events include Fan Fest at the Phoenix Convention Center and a music festival at Margaret T. Hance Park in downtown Phoenix.
