PHOENIX — Southbound Interstate 17 was reopened Friday at Interstate 10 after being closed for hours by a fatal crash, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
The crash originally closed the southbound lanes at Grant Street about noon, but the closure was shifted to the interchange with Interstate 10.

At least one person was killed and two more injured in the crash, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
The freeway was reopened just before 4 p.m. though delays could linger during the afternoon commute.
It is believed the crash occurred after the driver of a car attempted to merge onto I-17 and struck a pickup truck.
Drivers were able to use ramps to merge onto east- or westbound I-10 at the closure.
The crash caused big delays in the Valley.
Expect a rough afternoon commute. The I-17 SB closure includes all ramps to I-17 SB and is causing delays thru central Phoenix. #PhxTraffic pic.twitter.com/JyKd2w0UQk
