PHOENIX — Police in a Phoenix suburb have begun an investigation of claims that an officer hit a pregnant woman during an arrest that was recorded on a cell phone and posted online.
According to Gilbert Police, 24-year-old Rickeda Jobe “allegedly bit an officer in the hand and kicked another officer” while she was being arrested Sunday for violating a court order.
But a video that surfaced on YouTube and Facebook on Monday alleges that one of the officers punched Jobe in the face after the alleged attack.
The video (Warning: Video contains coarse language) does not show Jobe being hit; Instead, two other women were heard shouting, “Hey, quit hitting her! You cannot do that …. he punched her in the face!”
Two of the three officers who were involved in a confrontation, B. Wilson and R. Sheppard, have been placed on restricted duty, Gilbert Police spokesman Lt. Hugh White said.
Jobe was arrested in front of a house near Gilbert and Elliot roads for violating a court order, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on police officers.
White said an investigation is ongoing.
