PHOENIX — A woman was pulled off of a Phoenix mountain on Monday after she wandered off the trail, a fire official said.
Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Rob McDade said the 62-year-old woman was rescued from a precarious ledge on Papago Mountain.
“She was probably at least 700 feet up total from the base,” he said. “In that spot, she might have had a little bit of travel room to the next landing — maybe 15 feet.”
McDade did not give the woman’s name. She was not injured and able to walk down the trail after being helped.
The woman told officials she was familiar with the mountain but lost track when she became distracted.
“You can’t ever replace paying attention,” McDade said. “These mountains are very unforgiving.”
